Monity App Reviews

Great replacement for iStat Pro

Reading the negative reviews helped me pay more atention when installing and activating the notofication section of Monity. All worked without a single glitch. I’ve been using iStat Pro for over 10 years but the new version was too complex for my needs and iStat Mini was just not enough. This app totally covers all my needs and so far I can only say it’s exactly what I needed.

Much Better After 1.1 Update

I wasn’t in love with the app at first, but it is much improved after the 1.1 update. I was looking for something to replace the iStat dashboard widget, since dashboard looks like it might be dropped at some point in the future. This can replace almost everything, missing only the fan speed and the ability to view multiple networks at once. Beyond that, my only major gripe is more about the limited space available in the notification center vs dashboard. Dashboard gives a full screen, so plenty of room for weather, stocks, iStat, etc. Notification center gets very crowded quickly. This app seems about as good as can be for a notification center system monitor. If the developer adds fan speed support I may be able to drop iStat completely.

An Absolute Must-Have

I’ve tried all kinds of sytem monitoring apps, from the basic (iStat Mini) to the mind-numbingly arcane (GeekTool). I won’t hesitate to say that Monity beats them all. The data you want, when you want it, where you want it, and delivered in a beautiful, readable way nobody else has surpassed yet.

Now working fine, good purchase

Originally this wasn’t working at all. The update has fixed everything and the app is nice. Now that it’s fixed it’s well worth the price. Grateful that the developer has continued to work and release fixes.

Execellent update! All the data you need.

This is my second review. This update blows away the original version. It has all the data you need. Only thing lacking for me is Page Ins and Page Outs. Completely customizable! Able to view only the information you want to see. Great support from the developer. I had requested more information about harddrive data and this update includes it. I think it is tme to say good bye to the Dashboard and iStat Pro.

The REAL successor to iStat Menu

Long time user of the original iStat Menu dashboard widget and stuck with it long after it was unsupported. I don’t know what happened to those guys, but they completely dropped the ball when it came succeeding it. Their new and current stuff is either too minimal or too much information overload, which is mind boggling considering they already striked the right balance at the start. Luckily, it looks like Monity is picking up where they left off. It has a similar look and feel and overall is very clean. Now I can finally disable Dashboard for good!

UI can be improved a lot

Finally this this is working as expected. The UI can and should be improved. Currently its all white / gray colored small text. It can be made more intuitive and clearly visible. For example, for the memory pie char, free memory can be shown by green, used by red, etc. Similary headers can be made more clear.

Perfect, Beautiful, Simple

This app is a simple, perfect, and beautiful widget in the notification bar. Easy to read and tells you the basic. Does not tell you the temeperatures, but combined this with temperature gauge allows you to see everythign going on in your computer. I used this a lot to look at how muc the CPU system is used and look at upload/download speeds from networks. However, in my memory it says that free memory is 8 GB when I have 16 GB RAM. In my activity monitor, it says I use almost none of my RAM memory. I was wondering then what the 8 GB free memory means in this app. Besides that everythign is perfect.

love it

especially love the notification center aspect of it

very handy tool!

Please add ability to show cpu/gpu/etc temperature. It will be nice to add ability to setup NC notification in case if: 1. external of internal IP changed 2. CPU/GPU/etc become to hot 3. etc

Good app. Replaced iStat mini on my MBA

Monity does for me now what the iStat mini widget used to do. Gives me all the quick computer stats in a clean, compact format. Happy with the purchase.

Works like charm

This app is very nice in getting overview of your system performance. Before this I use to open my activity monitor everytime . Nice Widget on notification centre is very useful so that I don’t need to open any app. Thanks

Useful, but a little unclear how to use

Display in notification sidebar are great! It appears to require the application running in the background, which means it pops up when you log in, which is a little annoying. Getting rid of this annoyance would bump it to 5 stars.

Monity is not iStat

This is a nice application. I bought it to replace the years old and unsupported iStat. Turns out I still use the old iStat. I’ll keep this one around. Maybe future versions will add the fan speed and multiple networks. Looking forward to the next version.

Nearly as good as iStat Pro dashboard widget

Nearly. I still prefer the iStat Pro widget with temp and fan data. Far superior to iStat Mini.

Better than iStat, but lacks some features.

This app is better than iStat, but would have a fifth star if it provided fan speed. Please add it.

Not bad so far, but needs a lot more

Right now, it’s not a bad application. It does a lot of things pretty well - except it doesn’t read your RAM on a Macbook Pro very well. (It currently thinks I have 7GB total on the system) It would be awesome if it added temperature support.

Awesome, but lacking a few stats

So far, I love this little app and it’s widget. However, there are a few things I would additionally like to see: 1. Fan speed. Yes, you can hear it, but a speed that is off means one of your fans is not acting properly or should be cleaned. 2. Process using the most memory, using the most CPU, and using the most energy (battery). Useful for detecting if an app is sucking the life out of your computer. 3. CPU temperature. Good to know how hot your computer is running. Add these, and you’ll get 5 stars from me.

It should be better for an app that we pay for.

I like the app, but I don’t like that we have no control over what stats we see. The app should be able to provide more information and the ability for users to choose what stats they want to see (Yes, like in iStat.) For an app that we pay for, there should be more functionality to it. I personally would like to see: - Load: so I know how hard my computer is working at the moemnt, and providing such information is the purpose of the app anyway. - Temperatures. - Fan speeds. - Brakedown of the processes, i.e. how much memory does each app use. Even if this app is free, I can’t give it more than 3 stars at the moment.

Needs Work

A good start, but needs more work before I would recommend buying. Consistantly crashes after a few minutes. Offers little flexibiltiy in how it presents system status data. No menu bar display options.
